North American red deer (wapitis) produce an eerie high-pitched bugle call that would be more in keeping from an animal a fraction of their size. However, it now turns out that wapitis whistle to produce their high-pitched bugle shriek while simultaneously roaring through their vocal chords at the pitch that would be expected from such a large animal.
