Reading Electron Spin on Two Separate Quantum Dots (2 of 2) (IMAGE)
Caption
This is an atomic force microsope image of the gate structure of a device with similar gate structure as used in the experiment. The metallic gates are deposited on top of a GaAs/(Al,Ga)As heterostructure which hosts the 2DEG 90 nm below the surface. By applying a negative voltage on the gates, the team created a double quantum dot in a single electron regime. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Aug. 4, 2011, issue of Science Express, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Katja Nowack of Delft University of Technology in Delft, the Netherlands, and colleagues was titled, "Single-Shot Correlations and Two-Qubit Gate of Solid-State Spins."
