This shows the surface of a refrozen melt pond with Melosira arctica filaments trapped in it at station ICE 7. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Feb. 15, 2013, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Antje Boetius at Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven, Germany, and colleagues was titled, “Export of Algal Biomass from the Melting Arctic Sea Ice.”
