This is a view of the SAAO, appointed by the IAU Executive Committee as the official home of the IAU Office for Astronomy Development, in May 2010. The OAD is the key component of the IAU's decadal strategic plan, Astronomy for the Developing World, built on the unparalleled success of the International Year of Astronomy and approved during IAU General Assembly, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August 2009.
