This is an intensively managed pine forest in the southern United States. This image relates to an article that appeared in the July 14, 2011, issue of Science Express, published by AAAS. The study, by Y. Pan of the USDA Forest Service in Newtown Square, Pa., and colleagues was titled, "A Large and Persistent Carbon Sink in the World's Forests, 1990-2007."
