Researchers made hundreds of different mutations to an enhancer that acts on the fruit fly gene shavenbaby, and then tracked how those mutations altered when and where the gene was expressed. In this fly embryo, shavenbaby is highlighted in green, and the studied enhancer is highlighted in magenta.
