Catchment Geology Rules Freshwater Plant Communities (4 of 14) (IMAGE)
Caption
With their diversity of shapes and colors, aquatic plants are frequently used as ornamental plants in aquaria. A study published in Science shows that the global distribution of aquatic plants is controlled by their ability to use bicarbonate in photosynthesis. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the 15 Nov. issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by L.L. Iversen at University of Copenhagen in Copenhagen, Denmark, and colleagues was titled, "Catchment properties and the photosynthetic trait composition of freshwater plant communities."
