Loose-leaf wild buckwheat (Eriogonum brevicaule var. laxifolium) is one of the 611 species included in the newest and final volume of "Intermountain Flora," published by The New York Botanical Garden Press. Originally conceived in the 1930s, this monumental project documents in eight volumes the nearly 4,000 species found between the Sierra Nevada and Rocky Mountains. (Photo was taken on Hidden Peak, part of the Wasatch Range in northern Utah.)
