Self-incompatibility is a self/non-self recognition system that allows the pistil of a flower to reject self-pollen and accept non-self pollen to generate genetic diversity. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Nov. 5, 2010, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Ken-ichi Kubo of Nara Institute of Science and Technology in Ikoma, Japan, and colleagues was titled, "Collaborative Non-Self Recognition System in S-RNase–Based Self-Incompatibility."
