An animation of polymerase chain reaction offers an example of the combined power of search engine optimization, disaggregating content, and multi-channeling. In 2010, views of the animation in the DNA Learning Center animation collection, search page, and on YouTube were greater than the views to the module of the DNA interactive website on which the animation was released in 2003 (http://www.dnai.org). This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Dec. 23, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by D. Micklos at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in Cold Spring Harbor, NY., and colleagues, was titled, “Lessons From a Science Education Portal.”
