The Debut of a Robotic Stingray, Powered by Light-Activated Rat Cells (8 of 18) (VIDEO)
Caption
The tissue-engineered ray was challenged to swim through an obstacle course. Using the optical stimulation protocols, the ray was guided along a curved path by alternating forward motion and turning maneuvers. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the July 8, 2016 issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by S.-J. Park at Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering in Cambridge, MA, and colleagues was titled, "Phototactic guidance of a tissue-engineered soft-robotic ray."
