Teasing Biodiversity Patterns From the Fossil Record (5 of 6) (IMAGE)
Caption
A thick succession of Cambrian marine sedimentary rocks exposed in Montana. These rocks record the coming and going of shallow seas, which this study shows affects both biodiversity and patterns of sedimentation. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Nov. 25, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by B. Hannisdal of University of Bergen in Bergen, Norway, and colleagues, was titled, “Phanerozoic Earth System Evolution and Marine Biodiversity.”
