The protective effects of hypothermia on heart cells was reduced in mice with chronic hypoxia (CH) compared to mice with normal oxygen levels. CH mice displayed increased cell death (green). This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Apr. 24, 2019, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The paper, by Y. Liu at Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College in Beijing, China; and colleagues was titled, "Chronic hypoxia-induced Cirbp hypermethylation attenuates hypothermic cardioprotection via down-regulation of ubiquinone biosynthesis."
