Planarian worms are full of stem cells green, which divide to produce daughter cells (magenta) that together can make and replace all the different types cells in body (blue). (Centre image) Using targeted X-rays dividing stem cells can specifically deleted leaving behind a stripe of stem cells in the middle of the body. (Right) Inducing a wound at the tip of the head is enough to trigger stem cells to migrate towards the wound allowing the process of cell migration to be studied.
