The slab taken from the microatoll in photo 7909. The pencil lines are a first mapping of the annual bands. The progressive rise in sea level in the decades prior to death of the coral is apparent. This image accompanied the report "Earthquake Supercycles Inferred from Sea-Level Changes Recorded in the Corals of West Sumatra," by Dr. Kerry Sieh et al. appearing in the Dec. 12, 2008 issue of Science.
