Astronomers Get Hints Of New Physics From Lensed Quasars (IMAGE)

Astronomers have used light from quasars, lensed by giant galaxies, to make a new estimate of the Hubble Constant, the rate of expansion of the universe. The estimate differs slightly from an estimate from the Planck space telescope, hinting at possible 'new physics.' This image shows HE0435-1223, among the five best lensed quasars discovered to date. The foreground galaxy creates four almost evenly distributed images of the distant quasar around it.
