A wild wheat ear in the process of shedding its grains at maturity. Domestic wheats retain their grains. This image relates to article that appeared in the 31 March 2006 issue of the journal Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. K. Tanno at Research Institute for Humanity and Nature in Kyoto, Japan and colleagues, was titled "How Fast Was Wild Wheat Domesticated?"
