Johns Hopkins Medicine researchers recently compared the third metacarpal, or cannon bone, from three different breeds of horses (Thoroughbred, American Quarter Horse and feral Assateague Island ponies) to better understand how it responds to mechanical stresses, like those experienced during racing.
