The Turbot: The First Vertebrate to Be Sequenced in Spain (VIDEO)
Caption
Scientists from CSIC and the University of Santiago de Compostela have led the field in identifying the genes of this species which give clues into disease resistance. DNA sequencing also reveals the turbot's adaptation to both the lack of light and low water temperatures on the sea bed. The study opens the way for the design of genetic selection programs, or the design of possible vaccines.
