A caterpillar of Maculinea alcon, having recently emerged from a flower of Gentiana pneumonanthe is carried back to a nest of the ant Myrmica rubra by a foraging worker ant. This image relates to article that appeared in the Jan. 4, 2008, issue of the journal Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. David R. Nash of the University of Copenhagen and colleagues, was titled "A Mosaic of Chemical Coevolution in a Large Blue Butterfly."
