Nitrogen Use Efficiency Across the World (IMAGE)
Caption
This chart reflects nitrogen use efficiency and crop yields across the globe. Between 1961 and 2011, France and the United States have more efficiently used fertilizer all while producing large amounts of crops. On the other extreme, India and China have inefficiently used fertilizer, causing significant pollution, but have still produced high crop yields. In Sub-Saharan African countries like Malawai, fertilizer use has been extremely low, which has led to low crop yields.
