This video shows a biomechanical analysis of good and bad digging technique as part of research by Coventry University and the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) published in the journal HortTechnology. Characteristics of the technique found not to put excessive loads on joints were: minimal back bend, large knee bend and tight movement.
