This is the lower montane forest on the Baeza-Cosanga road in Ecuador close to the Erazo study site. The Andean forest shown in the picture is one of the areas of western Amazonia that remains relatively untouched by human activity. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Feb. 25, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Macarena L. Cárdenas, at The Open University in Milton Keynes, UK, and colleagues was titled, "The Response of Vegetation at the Andean Flank in Western Amazonia to Pleistocene Climate Change.”
