Photograph depicting sample preparation. A glass slide is held in the flame of a candle until a few µm thick soot layer is deposited. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Dec. 1, 2011, issue of Science Express, published by AAAS. The paper, by X. Deng at Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz, Germany, and colleagues, was titled, “Transformation of Black Candle Soot into a Transparent Robust Superamphiphobic Coating.”
