Foster City and San Francisco Airport have high economic value and are at heightened risk from flooding by 2100. Areas in blue indicate where the local land is sinking (LLS), areas in yellow show what's at risk from sea-level rise (SLR), and areas in red show the impact of both processes combined. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the March 7, 2018, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by M. Shirzaei at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ, and colleagues was titled, "Global climate change and local land subsidence exacerbate inundation risk to the San Francisco Bay Area."
