Software That Models Atomic-Scale World Wins SPORE Award (4 of 5) (IMAGE)
Caption
Scanning tunneling microscopy simulation. Using MW's quantum dynamics engine, the tunneling current from the probe tip to an atom sitting at the surface of a substrate is dynamically visualized. The electron wave is colored by the phase. This image relates to an article that appeared in the June 24, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The essay, by Charles Xie at The Concord Consortium in Concord, Mass., and colleagues was titled, "Computational Experiments for Science Education."
