Avoiding a Missed Diagnosis (IMAGE) Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center Caption This de-identified PET scan image is from a patient initially diagnosed and treated for HLH. The patient had repeated recurrent symptoms after completing treatment. The scan revealed several lymph nodes were positive for potential cancer and doctors found lesions in the spleen. Further testing revealed the patient had lymphoma. Researchers caution in the journal Pediatric Blood & Cancer against rushing into HLH treatment without also checking for the possibility of cancer in patients with an initial HLH diagnosis.
