(Note: this picture is not from the Knorr cruise.) Photograph by Bo Barker Joergensen. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the May 18, 2012, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Hans Roey at the University of Potsdam in Potsdam, Germany, and colleagues was titled, "Aerobic Microbial Respiration in 86-Million-Year-Old Deep-Sea Red Clay."
