NASA-NOAA's Suomi NPP satellite passed over Tropical Storm Gabrielle and the VIIRS instrument aboard captured this image of the storm on Sept. 5 at 12:18 a.m. EDT (0418 UTC). Suomi NPP found strongest thunderstorms north of the center had cloud top temperatures as cold as minus 70 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 56.6 Celsius).
