Experimental comparison of foveated and non-foveated imaging. The top images are of a commonly used test image called "Lena"; the foveated image shows increased detailed around the woman's eye. The bottom images demonstrate foveated imaging performance using a Siemens star test target. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Feb. 15 2017, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by S. Thiele at University of Stuttgart in Stuttgart, Germany, and colleagues was titled, "3D-printed eagle eye: Compound microlens system for foveated imaging."
