An enzyme-free detection system was used to quantify just a handful of circulating tumor cells. Comprising Fe3O4 beads decorated with bimetallic nanocages, the hybrid electrocatalyst is a hardy alternative to the natural enzyme horseradish peroxidase for cytosensing.
