Prof. Sigal Ben-Yehuda and colleagues at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem show that bacteria can exchange their membrane proteins through extracellular vesicles, and phages can take advantage of this exchange to infect resistant bacteria that are co-cultured with sensitive bacteria. This represents a new route of information transfer.
