How Breast Cancer Cells Get Into The Brain (IMAGE)

A representative image of breast cancer brain metastasis induced by human CTCs following injection into mice. This work provides first-time evidence of CTC isolation and establishment and characterization of CTC lines possessing metastatic competence in experimental animals. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the April 10, 2013, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The paper, by Dr. L. Zhang at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, and colleagues was titled, "The Identification and Characterization of Breast Cancer CTCs Competent for Brain Metastasis."
