Tim Schnoor, oceanographic facilities program manager at the Office of Naval Research (ONR) poses with the Auxiliary General Oceanographic Research (AGOR) research vessel (R/V) Neil Armstrong (AGOR 27) at Dakota Creek Industries, Inc., shipyard in Anacortes, Wash. The Navy, through ONR, has been a leader in building and providing large ships for the nation's academic research fleet since World War II. The Neil Armstrong replaces the R/V Knorr, which is being retired after nearly a half century of service.
