Corn Planted in a Wheat Cover (IMAGE)
Caption
Contour and no-till planting have already substantially reduced nutrient losses from agricultural fields in Tennessee, but a new study by researchers with the UT Institute of Agriculture predicts corn and soybean farmers who plant unfertilized wheat as a cover crop can reduce nutrient losses even more. The corn shown in this image is planted in a wheat cover crop at UT's West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center in Jackson, Tenn.
