Re-engineering Nylon for the Environment (IMAGE) NYU Tandon School of Engineering Caption The H&M Foundation awarded a team based at NYU Tandon School of Engineering in Brooklyn a Global Change Award for research into a new process for manufacturing nylon that would not only be powered by solar energy but would actively clean the environment through carbon capture. The researchers focused on the polymer because it is ubiquitous -- at an estimated 6 tons of production annually -- and hope their findings can eventually apply to the synthesis of chlorine and ammonia.
