Passive restoration at Reserva Ecológica de Guapiaçu (REGUA) on abandoned pastures in the Serra do Mar in Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. Active restoration plantings have also replaced the former pastures in this private nature reserve. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the 08 Nov. 2017, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by R. Crouzeilles at International Institute for Sustainability in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and colleagues was titled, "Ecological restoration success is higher for natural regeneration than for active restoration in tropical forests."
