Epidemiologist Rachel Volberg at UMass Amherst, lead investigator of the first major cohort study of adult gambling in the US, says results will lead researchers to think about gambling behavior in new ways. For example, people moved in and out of problem gambling status over time. Until now, the general understanding had been that disordered gambling is an unremitting chronic condition.
