Millions of Chinese fire-bellied newts (Cynops orientalis) are being imported by the USA and Europe for the pet market. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Oct. 31, 2014 issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by An Martel at Ghent University in Salisburylaan, Belgium, and colleagues was titled, 'Recent introduction of a chytrid fungus endangers Western Palearctic salamanders.'
