Some Antibiotics May Worsen Complications in Transplant Patients (IMAGE)

A new study suggests that some antibiotics that disrupt the gut microbiome may worsen graft-versus-host disease in stem cell transplant patients. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the May 18, 2016, issue of <i>Science Translational Medicine</i>, published by AAAS. The paper, by Y. Shonoat Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, N.Y., and colleagues was titled, "Increased GVHD-related mortality with broad-spectrum antibiotic use after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in human patients and mice."
