The Algoa Bay in South Africa is one of the study areas of the MARISCO project. The interdisciplinary and international project, led by the Helmholtz Institute for Functional Marine Biodiversity (HIFMB) at the University of Oldenburg (Germany) aims at developing sustainable strategies for the management of marine ecosystems. The Algoa Bay is a biodiversity hotspot. The island of St. Croix is the largest of three islands in the bay.
