A grey parrot on sale in Portugal. Once widespread across its natural habitat in central and western Africa, the bird pet trade has led to a severe population decline. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the 22 Nov. 2017, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by L. Reino at CIBIO/InBIO-Centro de Investigação em Biodiversidade e Recursos Genéticos in Vairão, Portugal, and colleagues was titled, "Networks of global bird invasion altered by regional trade ban."
