Time series images of five roots. Analyzing sequences like these is the most commonly used technique to study and measure root longevity. This image relates to article that appeared in the Jan. 25, 2008, issue of the journal Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Allan Strand at College of Charleston and colleagues, was titled "Irreconcilable Differences: Fine-Root Life Spans and Soil Carbon Persistence."
