On June 19, NASA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency's Global Precipitation Measurement or GPM core satellite showed intense showers falling at a rate of over 87 mm (3.4 inches) per hour in thunderstorms along the southern Gulf of Mexico coast where Danielle later formed. A few storm tops in that area reached heights above 15.6 km (9.7 miles). TRT: 00:13
