Brains of different species vary extensively in terms of size and the number of brain cells they contain. Nevertheless, brain cells in diverse species (from flies to humans) connect with each other based on the same set of rules and a common mechanism may sculpt such wiring. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the June 12th, 2019, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by A. Goulas at University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf in Hamburg, Germany, and colleagues was titled, 'Spatiotemporal ontogeny of brain wiring.'
