This is an acoustical clip of sounds made by pupa of the butterfly Maculinea rebeli. The volume has been increased in order to be heard by the human ear. This audio file relates to an article that appeared in the Feb. 6, 2009, issue of the journal Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Francesca Barbero and colleagues, was titled, "Queen Ants Make Distinctive Sounds that Are Mimicked by a Butterfly Social Parasite."
