These are white-rumpled Sandpiper (Calidris fuscicollis) chicks, Bylot Island, Nunavut. This image relates to an article that appeared in the January 15, 2010, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. L. McKinnon at Universite du Quebec a Rimouski in Rimouski, QC, Canada, and colleagues, was titled, "Lower Predation Risk for Migratory Birds at High Latitudes."
