Time-lapse measurement of membrane tension and mechanism of channel activity (IMAGE)
Caption
The scientists formed a simple lipid bilayer by docking two monolayer-lined water bubbles and evaluated membrane tension based on the Young-Laplace principle to measure intra-bubble pressures lower than 100 pascals, using a time-lapse system. This simple model avoids the use of ultra-complex membranes of real, "live" cells.
