This red-backed shrike was the first tagged bird to arrive back to northern Europe in May 2010 carrying information on its long journey from southern Africa. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Dec. 7, 2012, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Anders Tøttrup at University of Copenhagen in Copenhagen, Denmark, and colleagues was titled, “Drought in Africa Caused Delayed Arrival of European Songbirds.”
