The Vasaloppet study population comprises all Swedish participants in the world's largest long-distance (30, 45, or 90 km) cross-country ski race (Vasaloppet) between 1989 and 2010, together with frequency-matched individuals from the general population. The Vasaloppet was established in 1922, but it was not until 1989 that the personal numbers of participants were registered, making the present study possible.
